Gold Coasters adopting a CAN do attitude towards being active

The Gold Coast has 300 days of sunshine per year, with the perfect weather year-round, it is a playground for the young and old and everyone in-between. We pride ourselves on a healthy lifestyle and with over 2,300 parks and 200 sports fields scattered across our city, we would be crazy not to get out there and enjoy them!

The City’s Active and Healthy Program encourages the community to become more active and connected and offers a range of free to low-cost activities for all ages and fitness levels to enjoy. They also offer specific classes for kids, families and the mature aged.

The program is back bigger and better than ever with a renewed focus on supporting all community members to improve their physical and mental wellbeing! Grab your mum for some morning yoga, your kids for a toddler fitness class or your mates for a cruiser skateboarding workshops. Check out our highlights to this year’s program.

Active & healthy exercise therapy

To encourage everyone to benefit from regular exercise the program is offering a range of gentle and supportive activities designed especially for those that may require some extra assistance or who are currently experiencing an illness, injury or chronic disease. All classes offered are run by experienced physiotherapists, exercise physiologists and fitness trainers who are there to encourage and support you to lead a healthier and happier life.

Active families

It’s hard getting back into shape after having little ones. There’s plenty of excuses not to train! But with the Active & Healthy stroller group, Mum’s Group Fitness classes and Pre and Postnatal Pilates, there’s plenty of reasons to train! Offered in the mornings, there’s plenty of time to do school drop off, then bring your little one along to your workout. Meet like-minded mothers, re-gain your strength in a supportive group with no judgement and get a boost of energy to get you through your day. You will feel like a new person in no time!

All ability
No family member should miss out on being active. The Active & Healthy drumming for all has been modified to embrace the needs of those with disabilities. This program will get your body moving and grooving to the beat of the drum. Pa rum pum pum pum.

The whole family
A range of new weekend adventures are on offer in the new program to encourage the whole family to have some fun and get moving together. Locations vary around the Gold Coast and activities include rock climbing, mountain biking, kayaking, dance jams, silent yoga and so much more.

Toddlers can improve their gross motor skills such as kicking, catching and throwing


These free sessions offer the tiny tikes of the family a chance to run around and improve their gross motor skills such as kicking, catching and throwing. They will have the best time running around and meeting new friends, they won’t want to leave!

Toddlers and Seniors
Get your Groove On is a new intergenerational class being offered at the new 11th Avenue Community Space at Palm Beach. The session is designed to produce a playful, creative and fun dance experience for younger children and older adults combined. Its also lots of fun and will be followed by Storytime taken by seniors at the centre.

Active Holiday Program

Every school holiday, kids are spoilt for choice with a range of activities on offer. There is rock climbing in the park, fishing, silent disco’s, yoga, beach games, tie-dye and park games, and a favourite for all, the ninja warrior course. They won’t even miss the iPad!

Healthy ageing

Want to keep up with the grandkids and great-grandkids? There is a range of classes aimed at the over 65. Mature age men’s fitness, Active Healthy staying strong, Tai Chi, Zumba Gold, Pickleball, Yoga and Active Senior’s Fitness are just some of the classes on offer. Get out of the house, get active (at your own fitness level), stay social and enjoy life.

You don’t have to fit into one of the above categories to find something that suits you. The program offers everything from Tai Chi, dance, aquatic fitness, rock climbing, mountain biking, stand up paddleboarding, there’s too many to list! The best bit is, your furry friend won’t miss out, there’s even ‘Walk with me’ a morning out where you and your dog can meet new friends.
