April 13, 2022

Bam Bam Hot Cross Bun Cake

Easter is just around the corner – which means chocolate and sugar reign supreme.

We’ve hunted down the best local bakeries that you’re going to want to treat yo’self to. Some of these sweet eats are bound to sell out, so grab your friends and fam and hop to it. No egg-scuses!

Bam Bam Bakehouse | Mermaid Beach

Artisan bakehouse and patisserie Bam Bam Bakehouse is the talk of the town for good reason. Their authentic croissants and mind-blowing pastries have earned them the rep as one of the best bakeries around. Never one to shy away from a good ol’ Easter bake-off, this year, the Bam Bam pastry chefs have found a new level – the Hot Cross Cake. No longer do you need to decide between a hot cross bun or a decadent cake, think spiced sponge with a belly of vanilla custard and salted caramel topped with a spiced milk-chocolate mousse and a glaze. Drool. Not a fan of sharing? Grab a family sizes version so there is plenty to go around.

These will sell out so pre-ordering is recommended.

Tarte Bakery & Café | Burleigh

Burleigh’s Tarte Bakery has everything from light bites to substantial sized eats. . The Parisian and New York inspired fit out is refined, sophisticated and welcoming all at the same time. If you haven’t visited this delightful eatery yet – then Easter is the time to do so. Tarte will be slingin’ a house-made Easter Crueller, inspired by the crowd favourite Caramello Egg. The chocolate crueller features gooey salted caramel, a rich chocolate glaze, toffee shards, egg pieces and a 18k gold dusting to top it all off and be a bit egg-tra fancy.

Paddock Bakery | Miami

Nestled in the heart of buzzing Burleigh Heads, local haunt Paddock is a wood-fire bakery and dog friendly café that leaves you feeling like you’ve stepped into an Alice in Wonderland tea party. Speaking of the Mad Hatter – the crew at Paddock have some particularly crazy creations just waiting for you to try this Easter. Because the chocolate limit doesn’t not exist, they’ve introduced the Clucky Cruffin, the semi-sourdough cruffin (the love child of the croissant and muffin, FYI) dipped in milk chocolate, filled with Bueno Hazelnut and white chocolate crème, topped with gianduja whipped ganache, hazelnut praline cremeaux, chocolate hazelnut pebbles and a cute Easter chick to finish it off.

The team have also brought back the insta-famous Easter dippy eggs, featuring two hollow Cadbury Chocolate Easter Eggs filled with vanilla whipped cream and a salted caramel ’yolk’, all served with Paddock’s doughnut dippy fries, fresh strawberry, mini marshmallows, malted milo soil and a pretzel cookie crumb… aka the stuff sugar dreams are made of.

Wood-fired sourdough hot cross buns are also fresh out the oven each day, available in the OG fruit or Callebaut milk chocolate flavours.

Custard Canteen | Tallebudgera

This waterside bakehouse is famous for its hero product – the Portuguese custard tart. If you can look beyond this delicate, flakey, melt-in-your-mouth moment however, you will find the limited edition Creme Egg Cookie. Equal parts fudgy dark choc chip cookie and creme egg stuffing, this handful of gooey goodness is also covered in Lindt milk chocolate. The team also have traditional, fluffy, fruit-filled hot cross buns. Grab your treats fresh in-store or pre-order for pick-up.

5B2F Bakehouse | Chirn Park

At 5B2F Bakehouse, owner Moonsun Yoo makes everything from scratch: pies, sausage rolls, French pastries, croissants, cronuts, cakes – even marzipan! 5B2F stands for the Biblical reference ‘five bread, two fish’ – so Easter doesn’t go unnoticed here. This year they have put a spin on the classic hot cross bun, made with buttery sticky bun with port wine and marinated dry fruit. They’ve also even found a way to do the seemingly impossible and elevate the humble croissant. This egg-shaped, homemade, golden as the sun croissant is filled with Crème brûlée and berry compote. If that hasn’t satisfied all your cravings, there is also the Happy Easter – choux pastry filled with macadamia praline, hazelnut praline custard, fresh cream and egg-pertly finished off with a white chocolate dust and Ferrero Rocher egg.

Fuel Bakehouse | Currumbin

Fuel bakery does things differently – they specialise in pies, doughnuts and coffee, and boy oh boy do they do them well. This Easter, Fuel Bakehouse will have hot cross buns a plenty coming fresh out the oven daily. Grab a packet or two to share or all for yourself, we aren’t one to judge.

Specialising in brownies, cookies, fudge and truffle balls, the team have well and truly got you covered this Easter with their max and match treat boxes. Take your pic of brownies, cupcakes or crème egg stuffed cookies alongside some homemade Easter Eggs and you’ve got yourself a very successful sugar-coma.
