We’re spoilt for choice in the Southern suburbs, with parks stretching from Varsity Lakes down to Tugun. These 7 Gold Coast playgrounds are family friendly areas designed to be fun for the whole family. With the warmer weather upon us, it’s the perfect time to pack up the kids and go on a weekend adventure to discover your favourite new local haunt.
Schusters Park, Tallebudgera
Bring your binoculars and climbing boots, this jungle themed playground is set up for a wild adventure. Designed to encourage young climbers, kids can choose from mega slides, towers, nets, platforms and more. Kids of all ages will love the nature paths and steppingstones, while the more adventurous can practice on the balancing posts. This playground would be best suited for aged 4+, though younger children will have fun exploring the nature-based surroundings. Conveniently located next to Tallebudgera Creek, bring your swimmers for a dip in the summer.

Tugun Park, Tugun
Channel your inner prince or princess with this castle themed playground, which encourages imaginative role playing. Standing tall with two castle towers, armour, battlements and more, your kids can let their imagination run wild. There are plenty of slides and swings to go around at this tidy little park. As the equipment caters for older kids, this playground would best suit those aged 3+.

Robert Neumann Park, Currumbin Valley
Nestled into the trees of Currumbin Valley, there is a nature-based playground with something for everybody. This park combines smaller toddler facilities like little slide and lower climbing equipment, with mega-slides and climbing opportunities for the big kids. Come to this park prepared for a peaceful morning surrounded by picnic gazebo, shaded area and open grassed space and a little duck pond. Pack a little morning tea picnic and rug, to make the most of this beautiful area.

Deodar Park, Burleigh Waters
A local favourite, this neighbourhood gem includes options for all ages. As a shaded playground, it’s perfect for enjoying in the warmer months. Little adrenaline seekers will love the seven slides on offer at this unique playground. They’ll also enjoy a flying fox, see-saw and lots of other fun interactive elements. There is a smaller area for toddlers to enjoy as well. Right next to the playground sits a dirt BMX track, so bring your bike and double the fun! Why not make an afternoon of it, with shaded picnic tables, large grassed area and basketball court nearby you’ll be kept busy. Please be aware that there is no toilet facility here.

Frascott Park, Varsity Lakes
The first playground in this park is for animal lovers and is sure to impress with its safari themed equipment. Catering to all ages with one play structure for toddlers and another more adventurous area for the older children who are keen to climb. Don’t forget to go elephant spotting in the safari car! The second playground is an oldie but a goldie and has been more designed with younger children in mind. Toddlers will find this one more accessible without parent-boosts. It has all the cornerstones of a quality park, including swings, slide and merry go round.

Pirate Park, Palm Beach

Ronnie Long Park, Tallebudgera
Located between Tallebudgera surf Club and the beachfront, this playground is split into two sections – or three if you count the exercise equipment, which children usually do! The larger playground is surf club themed with lifeguard towers, lookouts, spinning frame, slides and more. This is a great park for kids 3+. The smaller playground just next to it is perfect for toddlers to let their imagination run free, with an airplane and climbing frame with slide. This area is sanded and both are shaded with a shade sail.

Pirate Park, Palm Beach
We can’t do a Southern Gold Coast playground rundown without including Palm Beach’s Pirate Park. Located just meters from Currumbin Creek, this Pirate-themed playground is a great spot for the entire family to have fun. Right next to large parkland for a picnic, Dune café for a coffee, toilet facilities and bike tracks, you can’t go wrong with a day out at Pirate Parklands. The playground has a giant pirate ship for kids of all aged to explore, planks to walk down, and caves and tunnels to discover. This one is a great fit for all ages.
