SEE Group shapes Gold Coast’s future

Marshall Hall | July 23, 2020

The SEE Group might be a relative newcomer to the Gold Coast, but the company has been shaping the city for years.

Proudly family-owned, the SEE Group supplies a large range of services to the construction industry.

The company has been heavily involved in some of the Gold Coast’s most influential development projects like the Empire Industrial Estate at Yatala, Pacific Pines, Coomera Town Centre, Sanctuary Cove, and many projects at the Gold Coast Airport.

Established as South East Excavations in the Tweed Shire in 1988 by brothers Brian and Bruce Turner, the company has grown to now have more than 350 employees.

The company moved its headquarters across the border to the Gold Coast in 2015 and since then it has grown significantly, both in size and diversity as it expanded into new areas of operation.

The year 2018 marked a changing of the guard amongst the leadership team with founding directors Brian and Bruce Turner stepping down from the board. The board is now made up of Steve Turner (Brian’s son), Mark Turner (Brian and Bruce’s nephew) and Peta Newton (Bruce’s daughter), who was appointed as the Executive Director of People and Compliance in 2018.

“We’re extremely proud to be a local Gold Coast business having been originally headquartered in the Tweed Shire and within the Gold Coast local government area since 2015,’’ says Steve Turner.

“We pride ourselves on providing employment and business opportunities for locals with a majority of staff living within the Gold Coast local government area and some of our biggest clients and subcontractors also based here.”

Turner says the company has built a strong reputation with clients across all business sectors in its 30-year history.

The company now has several distinct divisions to service the needs of the construction industry.

SEE Civil

Providing construction and engineering solutions for major civil infrastructure and urban development projects. Services include bulk and detailed earthworks, roadworks, bridge construction and construction of civil infrastructure components such as water, sewer and telecommunications infrastructure. SEE Civil engages on projects ranging from $5 million – $150 million and works for large government organisations and private clients.

Quarry Solutions

Provides fixed and mobile material extraction for our own and third-party owned quarries and construction sites. Quarry Solutions expertise includes high-capacity production of rock materials for construction projects as well as onsite mobile crushing and screening. Since 2015, Quarry Solutions has been the major supplier of quarry materials to the Pacific Highway Upgrade: Woolgoolga to Ballina, one of the largest infrastructure projects undertaken in Australia.

Civil Rent

Manages a large fleet of modern construction equipment and machinery. Operating predominantly on SEE Civil and Quarry Solutions sites, Civil Rent has recently expanded to include some external hire and cross-hire opportunities within their portfolio.

Integrated Concrete Solutions (ICS)

Provides ready mix and pre-cast concrete solutions for a range of projects and clients. ICS was established in 2018 to fill a gap in the northern NSW concrete market but has since expanded to include various areas and products.

Darryl McCarthy Constructions DMC

Strategically acquired in 2019 to increase SEE Group’s quarrying capacity, product range and footprint.

SEE Group’s businesses are designed to vertically integrate across projects providing their clients holistic value for money solutions. For example, Quarry Solutions supplies the necessary rock and quarried products for SEE Civil projects.

The company’s incredible success over the past 30 years was recently rewarded when SEE Group was named as the Gold Coast’s Family Business of the Year in the 2019 Gold Coast Business Excellence Awards.
