Gold Coast Christmas Carols: The Ultimate Festive Guide

Despite the tumultuous year that has been, the Gold Coast’s festive spirit is alive and well this holiday season, with a range of fabulous Christmas events on offer across the City throughout December. Here are our picks for nine of the best events we’ve seen so far.
2020 Mayor’s Virtual Christmas Carols
Where: Online and on radio
When: 5 December, 6pm to 6.45pm
The ninth annual Mayor’s Christmas Carols, presented by Mercedes-Benz Gold Coast, is turning virtual for 2020.
The 2020 Gold Coast Music Awards Artist of the Year, Casey Barnes will join the impressive line-up of headline acts from Mayor’s Christmas Carols events gone by including, David Campbell, Kate Ceberano, Anthony Callea, Emma Pask, Christine Anu, Katie Noonan, Luke Kennedy and Paulini.

12 Days of Christmas
Where: HOTA, Home of the Arts, Bundall
When: 3 to 18 December
Over 12 nights in December the Lakeside Terrace and Lawn Bar at HOTA will host low key, relaxed performances from artists including CC the Cat, Trichotomy, Nadia Sunde Trio, Karl S Williams, and Santa Taranta. These free sunset sessions, with live music, eats and drinks, are sure to remind you of why you love living on the Gold Coast.
Got the nibblies? Hampers and cheese platters will be available to pre-order, and there maybe even be a few cheeky Christmas cocktails for the occasion.
The full line up will be announced shortly over at the Fridays on the Lawn Facebook event.
Carols on the Green
Where: Sanctuary Cove
When: 3 December, 5pm to 8pm
Christmas Carols are set to fill the air at Sanctuary Cove, as locals sing along to their favourite Christmas songs at the annual Carols on the Green.
A stellar line up of local performers will sing on the night including the Paradise Carollers, Amazon Blue and Vanessa Krummenacher and the event will include the much loved and celebrated Rotary Buggy Parade. This family-friendly event will conclude with a special appearance by Santa and Rudolf.

Tugun Lights Up
Where: Tugun Village, Tooloona Street, Tugun
When: 5 December, 4pm
Tugun Lights Up returns this year for its eighth annual celebration. Dine under the stars at one of the fantastic local cafes or restaurants, check out the local window displays and special offers, or visit the Christmas market stalls.
Plenty of children’s entertainment on offer throughout the program with Santa making a special appearance.
Staged entertainment will be by free, pre-registered ticket only. Stage entertainment includes children’s character shows, live music, carols etc. Tickets for the staged areas have reached current capacity but more made be available here closer to the event.
Not attending the staged entertainment? There is still plenty to do with many of the local businesses providing special offers and entertainment throughout Tugun village. In addition there will be Christmas Markets, Roving Performers, Christmas Storyfest and more along Toolona Street.

Community Christmas Carols + Tania Kernaghan in Concert
Where: Mudgeeraba Showgrounds, 115 Mudgeeraba Rd, Worongary
When: 12 December, 7.30pm to 10.30pm
Come along and join in a festive evening of community Christmas Carols with beloved Australian country hit maker Tania Kernaghan.
Ticket holders are encouraged to bring their own camp chairs and picnic blankets, and partake of the delicious food and coffee vans on offer. There will also be market stalls at the event for those who may wish to do a spot of Christmas shopping while they’re in the mood.
Adult tickets are $25 If Pre-Purchased, $35 if purchased at the gate. Kids are $12.50.

Carols by the Lake
Where: The Promenade, Robina Town Centre Drive, Robina
When: 12 December 4pm to 8pm
Celebrate Christmas this year with ‘Carols by the Lake 2020’ on Saturday 12 December from 4pm to 8pm at The Promenade, Robina Town Centre.
Presented by Division 11 Cr Hermann Vorster in partnership with Robina Town Centre, attendees will enjoy loads of free family fun including live music, kids activities, roving entertainment, Christmas carols, a visit from Santa, performances by community groups and much more.
Nearby restaurants and businesses at Robina Town Centre will also be serving up some festive food and special offers.
This event is being run under a QLD Health COVIDSafe plan and as such requires attendees to register online for a free ticket.
Currently the allocation is exhausted, but keen punters are encouraged to check the website closer to the day for any cancellations or updates to COVID restrictions and requirements.
Coolangatta Christmas Carols 2020 – This event has been CANCELLED due to the weather
Where: Queen Elizabeth Park, Coolangatta
When: 13 December, 4pm to 8pm
The annual Coolangatta Christmas Carols will be taking over Queen Elizabeth park again in 2020, with loads of children’s entertainment, food trucks, market stalls and roving performers to keep the family entertained.
The staged entertainment kicks off from 5.30pm and while tickets are free, registration is required. Currently the allocation is exhausted, but keen punters are encouraged to check the website closer to the day for any cancellations or updates to COVID restrictions and requirements.
The non-staged area does not require a ticket.

Carols on the Broadwater
Where: Southport Yacht Club
When: 16 December, 4pm to 7pm
Join in the annual Carols on the Broadwater at Southport Yacht Club, a family fun evening of live carols, face painting, games, and carolers overlooking the stunning Broadwater.
Plated dinners for kids ($15) and Adults ($30) means you can kick back and let someone else do the cooking while you enjoy the festivities. And make sure you stay around and watch Santa’s Jetpack show! His big departure will be a night to remember for all.
Table bookings are essential. Additional tickets will be released closer to the event – keeping in line with current QLD COVID-19 restrictions.

A Christmas Carol
Where: HOTA, Home of the Arts, Bundall
When: 18 + 19 December, various times
One actor, twenty characters, one festive evening! A world premiere of a one-man show retelling Charles Dickens’ classic tale of redemption and compassion. The story of Ebenezer Scrooge who on a cold Christmas Eve night is taken on a haunting journey by three ghosts and shown the error of his ways, offers a timeless message about greed and the joy of sharing. Will Bligh stars in this unique adaptation recreating Scrooges’s world using lighting, sound and a wooden chair.
Experience a dynamic and visceral performance with all of your favourite characters, such as Bob Cratchit, Jacob Marley, Tiny Tim and the three ghosts, as they are brought to life on stage.

A Queen’s Christmas Carol
Where: Miami Marketta
When: 23 December, 6.30pm – 9.pm
Drag Bingo GC proudly presents, A Queen’s Christmas Carol. Get into the holiday spirit with Natasha St.James, Dixie Wrecked & Kora Kurvacious at this special Christmas event. Enjoy live Christmas Carols sung by ‘Mates rates’ Barbershop quartet, a few rounds of Bingo, and holiday inspired performances by your queens. Strictly MA +15.
