A Gold Coast winter adventure

Celece Rizza | July 16, 2021

Winter on the Gold Coast is the perfect excuse for adventures into the Gold Coast hinterland and surrounds for weekend getaways, day trips, hikes, farm visits and the hunt for good food and wine.

We’ve helped you out and rounded out some of our best winters picks to try this season.

Pubs with fireplaces

Fox & Hounds
7 Elevation Dr, Wongawallan

An authentic English pub, think traditional English pub fare including beef and Guinness pie, toad in the hole, roasts and golden Yorkshire pudding. Choose between George’s Bar, Paddy’s Bar or the Tudor Rose with Beer Garden, the beer garden is the perfect spot for the kids to have a run-around. Or head inside and enjoy an ale and the warmth of the fire. You had us at Guinness Pie!

The Fireplace Restaurant
Manor Circle, Sanctuary Cove

For a romantic dinner by the fireplace, this is your perfect location. Choose from the A La Carte menu or spoil yourself with the 6-course degustation and wine pairing. The Fireplace Restaurant sits within the InterContinental so you are guaranteed a culinary experience. After your meal, take a stroll around Sanctuary Cove or grab a nightcap at one of the many bars, the perfect end to a perfect night. Date night goals.

Woodchoppers Inn
Railway St, Mudgeeraba

A local favourite bring the kids and sit by the open fire, the BBQ is wood smoked the way it should be! Can’t decide what to get? Choose the 2-course banquet for $27pp and try a bit of everything. You can’t call yourself a Gold Coast local if you haven’t visited Woodchoppers.

Robina Pavilion
Ron Penhaligon Way, Robina

Who doesn’t love a platter of Tasmanian double brie cheese, prosciutto di parma, balsamic olives and grilled chorizo? Top it off with an open fire pit for you and your besties to roast marshmallows and we’re on a winner here!

D’Arcy Arms
2929 Gold Coast Highway, Surfers Paradise

Tucked conveniently on the southern boarder of Surfers Paradise, D’Arcy Arms is an institution famed for its hearty Irish fare, live music and of course, cosy open fire. Rendezvous at bar with a glass of red or bring the family for a warming winter dinner.

Fox and Hound, an authentic English pub

Dishes are locally sourced and cooked on the Chef’s wood-fire oven at The Fireplace Restaurant

Enjoy cured meats and cheese boards while toasting marshmallows by the lakeside.

Winery

What’s winter without a winery stop? Mt Nathan Winery is offering a range of wines including their award-winning blend the honey fortified wine Winter Original. Winemaking has been in this family’s blood since they first migrated back in 1850s. Try the Winter Wines such as chocolate, coffee or lychee, I’ll take my wine as dessert thanks!

Quaint Teahouses

The lace tablecloths, beautifully decorated teacups and teapots, three-tiered vintage cake stands, delicate finger sandwiches and scrumptious scones and cream all add to the experience of high tea.

Create some winter memories with your daughter, mum, grandma or friends and get some old-world charm at one of the many teahouses on the Gold Coast, pinkies up ladies.
