Supporting start ups
Since officially being declared a city in 1958, our fledgling economy has grown from a weekend destination for day-trippers from Brisbane to become a diverse global enterprise worth more $38 billion a year. The Gold Coast is a start-up in its own right that is now truly thriving.
We understand what it takes to begin with a vision and bring it to reality, which is why so many start-ups choose to come here to grow their business.
Our start-up economy is on the rise, with the Gold Coast ranked fifth in Australia for new business starts. Our innovative business culture positions us among the top six cities in Australia for lodging patent applications on a per capita basis.
Our support for start-ups has never been stronger with funding and grants designed to turn great ideas into commercial reality and take them to the world.
The Gold Coast is moving to establish our city as an entrepreneurial hub that is globally recognised as a place where knowledge, innovation and commercialisation are the key drivers of growth in the local economy.
We are fostering a start-up ecosystem of entrepreneurs through start-up incubators such as The Gold Coast Innovation Hub, working in the fields of digital technology, health services, software development, aerospace technology and communications. This work is supported by collaborations with our three major universities which deliver world-class research across multiple disciplines.
The Bond Business Accelerator is an incubator for early-stage start-ups offering introductions to investors as well as formal training and high-level mentoring.
Government resources are provided through Innovate Queensland, an initiative that delivers workshops, webinars, and collaboration activities designed to support an innovation-led economy.
