We are a city brimming with opportunity, where investment in our diverse economy is actively supported.
Our fastest growing industries, in terms of employment generation, are in the fields of health, construction, accommodation and food services, manufacturing and education. Combined, these sectors have created more than 30,000 additional jobs for our city over the past five years.
The emerging opportunities can be found in transport and warehousing, a sector supported by the rise of e-commerce. There are also prime opportunities in professional and retail services, both of which leverage off a rapidly expanding business community and growing population.
The expanding health sector is supported by a multibillion-dollar infrastructure framework within the Health and Knowledge Precinct at Southport. This 200-hectare hub continues to mature to become a major economic contributor to the Gold Coast economy and is where some of Australia’s leading scientists, research industries and facilities can be found.
Already home to the Gold Coast University Hospital, Griffith University, Gold Coast Private Hospital and supported by the Smith Collective residences, new opportunities are to be found in new commercial clusters emerging within the precinct.
Among them is Lumina, a state-backed commercial project set over 9.5-hectares and designed for life science, health and technology-related businesses. A staged initiative that will be delivered over 15 years, Lumina capitalises on the co-location benefits to be found within the Health and Knowledge Precinct to expand the scope of this thriving innovation-based communities.
In sport, we are a proven performer with a framework that supports team development, training and competition. Our open business culture, climate and global connectivity has led to the relocation of a number of peak bodies to our city. As Australia’s emerging sporting hub, our assets offer prime opportunities for the further development of sport and recreation services from grassroots through to the elite level.
